Blue Star on Fredericksburg Road: San Antonio, TX 1997
parallel conditions in a field of fluctuating probabilities oocupied an empty storefront in Blue Star Art Gallery’s periodic exhibition series on Fredericksburg Road. The installation combined elements of the site - a stainless steel diner counter, roadside warning lights, a car hood, and a cocoon-like element from previous installations - a bamboo armature and recycled copper screen. The installation pierced the accompanying artist’s work, a suspended colored acoustic tile ceiling. Many of the installation components, suspended by cable, appeared to float. Motion and light sensors located throughout the space activated flashing lights and metronome-like sounds to fill the dead space with renewed life.
